Vernon photographer Amie Roussel, the owner of Carousel Studios, has made the decision to rebrand her studio to Amie Roussel Photography. The re-brand occured after hackers took control of the Carousel Studios Facebook page in late 2022. The hackers used Roussel’s account to post irrelevant viral content, cutting off her access to her client base and business information.
Roussel had built her Vernon photography business over 12 years, relying heavily on Facebook to stay in touch with clients and handle appointments. Unfortunately, the hack compromised not only her social media presence but also her branding, website, email, and even her credit card details. Despite her best efforts, Meta (Facebook’s parent company) provided no assistance in recovering her page, leaving Roussel with no choice but to start fresh .
By early 2023, Roussel made the difficult decision to close Carousel Studios and rebrand her business as Amie Roussel Photography. The rebranding marked a fresh start, but the financial loss was substantial—estimated at close to $10,000, including lost clients, new branding costs, and rebuilding her online presence .
Determined to bounce back, Roussel has implemented additional security measures to prevent future breaches. Though she will continue to use Facebook, she plans to diversify her marketing strategies moving forward to avoid over-reliance on one platform .
